After being cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fast pace and excitement of the Tag20 Anzac Cup is coming to Goulburn Australia, from 17-18 April.
\nTag20 is an innovative sport made for social collaboration, health, wellbeing, fitness, and enjoyable competition. The skills performed in the game of Tag20 are like those from codes including Touch Football, Rugby League and Rugby Union. The major difference is that the tag replaces the impact of a tackle.
\nThe Anzac Cup is inspired by the camaraderie of the Anzac Heroes who fought for our countries – Australia and New Zealand. It is a friendly competitive sport between two spirited nations.
\nTag20 Anzac Cup Organiser, Jody Te Ora, is excited for the Anzac Cup to return this year and for it to be held in Goulburn.
\n‘Last year (2020), this event had to be cancelled only 4 weeks out from commencing. Even this year we have had a few of our competitors from New Zealand forced to withdraw due to travel uncertainty.’
\n‘However, we are returning this year and spectators can expect to see the high-quality competition of a new and exciting sport. The high skill sets normally seen in high profile rugby codes, the speed and natural abilities of many participants will all be on show.’
\nThe event will attract approximately 450 participants and officials, spread across 28 teams coming from all over Australia including Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Canberra, and Western Australia.
\nTeams will play in 14 divisions, ranging from Juniors (under 8 years) to Seniors (40+ years) in a best of five test series between Australia and New Zealand.

\nAustralia will compete in 18 of the 22 sports on the program for Tokyo, including debut Paralympic sports Para-taekwondo and Para-badminton, equalling the record for most sports Australia has competed in at a single Games, set at Sydney 2000.
\nParalympics Australia has confirmed that the Australian team is the largest to contest a Games overseas, with a contingent of 179 Para-athletes representing our nation.
\nAustralia’s team comprises 101 males and 78 females, ranges in age from 15 to 60 and includes 84 athletes who will attend their first Paralympic Games. It also includes two athletes who will compete at their seventh Paralympics, one who will compete at her sixth and six who will compete at their fifth Games.

\nNew LED lighting systems have been installed for both fields, with a maximum light level of 500 lux which is of a standard which will enable Goulburn to host national grade competitions. Power by Watts were awarded the tender for this project by Council in February this year at a cost of $324,971.
\n“It is a wonderful result to have this lighting already completed within six months of awarding the tender for the project” said Mayor Bob Kirk.
\n“This is a significant step in our redevelopment of the entire Goulburn Hockey Complex, with refurbishment of the western field now also well underway. Soon we will once again have a complex with two high standard fields, which is excellent for the region.”
\nMrs Wendy Tuckerman MP said Goulburn has a proud history when it comes to professional and social hockey participation. “These upgrades will secure the future of the sport in the region, allowing players to keep on playing and also encouraging newcomers to join,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
\nIn addition to the lighting, a company named Polytan was selected to provide a refurbished water-based field. Polytan is an experienced company in the provision of hockey turf fields and was the sole supplier for hockey surfacing for the 2016 Olympic Games.
\nUpgraded men’s and women’s change rooms, and a new 132 space sealed car park are also to be constructed as part of the wider project, which means that the Goulburn Regional Hockey Facility will be able to cater to state and national hockey championship requirements.

The good news for those of us not quite at Olympic standard, is the up-coming XVIII Australian Masters Games.
\nThis year the Games are being held from the 9th – 16th October in Perth, WA. There are currently some great “Early Bird” registration deals on offer that close on 30th July 2021. These deals include a discounted Games entry fee of $115 + sport fee (increases to $145 + sport fee from 31 July), and a chance to win one of four weekly Unique Stays in WA prizes in July, thanks to Tourism WA.
\nFor those not in the know, the Masters Games are a biennial sporting event and the largest multi-sport participation sporting event in Australia. The Games were first proposed to the Northern Territory Government by the then President of the Confederation of Australian Sport, Garry Daly. This led to the Central Australian Masters Games being held in 1986, and the inaugural Australian Masters Games being held in Hobart, Tasmania in 1987.
\nThe minimum age for most sports is 30 years of age, however some of the sports, like gymnastics, have a minimum of 18 years. The range of sports played is varied – from archery to dragon boating, to lawn bowls, to table tennis, to wrestling.

Notable is the inclusion of reigning gold medallist Katie Kelly and world No.1 Lauren Parker. Kelly became Australia’s first Paralympic triathlon champion when she and guide Michellie Jones won the PT5 classification at Rio 2016, the first Games in which Para-triathlon was included.
\nKelly, who will race with new guide Briarna Silk in Tokyo, will be joined by Parker, the 2019 World Champion in the PTWC classification, Rio 2016 representative Nic Beveridge (current world No.8 in the PTWC classification), Emily Tapp (world No.3 PTWC), Jonathan Goerlach with guide Dave Mainwaring (world No.4 PTVI) and David Bryant (world No.12 PTS5).
\n“It’s an outstanding team,” Kelly said. “There are some outstanding athletes who’ve been in the triathlon game for a long time and are really ready to make their mark in Tokyo.
\n“I think for all of us there’s just a great sense of gratitude at the moment. We’re so grateful the Games are going ahead, so grateful for the country we live in and being able to keep training over the last 12 months.

\nThe Grants can be used for spaces like halls and meeting rooms, community transport, and infrastructure that supports youth, disability, mental health, homelessness, and domestic violence services.
\nInfrastructure Grants are made possible through the NSW Government’s Clubgrants Category 3 Fund, which reinvests a contribution from the state’s registered clubs gaming machine profits back into community projects.
\nTo be eligible for funding, applications must meet eligibility conditions including the project location, the applicant and project benefit, purpose and development status. There is also a requirement for local government applicants to match funding.
\nInfrastructure Grants can be used toward the costs of construction, alteration, renovation, completion and fit-out of buildings and community infrastructure in the following categories:
\nArts & Culture: $50,000 to $200,000 available per project
\nCommunity Infrastructure: $10,000 to $200,000 available per project

\nThe grant was awarded to Wingecarribee Shire Council to Fund the Moss Vale War Memorial Aquatic Centre Multipurpose Program Room and Access and Inclusion Upgrade.
\nThe grant was part of Round One of the NSW Government’s Regional Sport Facility Fund which sees $50 million awarded over two years for new and upgraded sports facilities in Regional NSW.
\nMember for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman congratulated Wingecarribee Shire Council on receiving the grant which will improve sport infrastructure for the sport-loving community.
\n“Sport is part of the fabric of the Highlands community,” Mrs Tuckerman said. “The Moss Vale Memorial Aquatic Centre access and inclusion upgrade will provide residents with a modern, fit-for-purpose sports facility.”
\nCouncil’s Acting General Manager Marissa Racomelara also welcomed the announcement. “This grant funding will help even more people access and use this wonderful facility and I congratulate the staff of Council and the Aquatic Centre’s operator Bluefit for the application and thank the Member for Goulburn for her continued support of our Shire,” she said.
\nThe Regional Sport Facility Fund provides grants to councils, local sporting bodies, NSW State Sporting Organisations, State Sporting Organisations for People with Disability, National Sporting Organisations and private enterprises. Police Citizens Youth Clubs NSW (PCYC) are currently gearing up for the Nations of Origin tournament, which runs from 29th June – 2nd July 2021.
\nThe Nations of Origin tournament has been designed to promote reconciliation within communities and engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal members in PCYC through the games of Rugby League 7s, Football 5s, Basketball, Netball, and for the first time this year, Gymnastics.
\nThe concept of the tournament was initiated seven years ago after consultation with Aboriginal Communities across NSW and young people, and motivates youth to celebrate Australia’s diverse indigenous culture and its deep impact on our history and their stories.
\nSince its inception, the event has been hugely successful. The 2019 tournament saw the engagement of over 1,400 Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people from across NSW participating in the multi-faceted program. Teams representing their Aboriginal Nations participated in netball, rugby league and football fives tournaments. Teams were supported by over 300 volunteer supervisors, managers, coaches and trainers, who worked with teams in the lead up to, and during the events.
