CBD turf works to be completed

Other cities will be green with envy as Goulburn’s CBD is further brightened when artificial turf is laid on the Auburn Street median next week.

Work will be undertaken on three blocks of Auburn Street, stretching from Verner Street to Montague Street. The project will see artificial turf laid and glued, following the success of a trial in front of Belmore Park.

“So far we have received a remarkable amount of feedback about the trial, with the majority of this being positive” said General Manager Warwick Bennett.

“The turf breaks up the large amount of concrete in the CBD, and along with the newly planted trees and our planter boxes adds a lot of greenery to the area. If our CBD is a nicer place to be in, we will attract more people to the area to enjoy our restaurants, cafes and shops – and this is all part of Council’s plan with the CBD enhancement projects.”

Council staff have been liaising with businesses in Auburn Street this week to show them the traffic plan, and to ensure we work with business to minimise any disruptions. Traffic flow will be always maintained, however there will be small diversions and short delays, and some parking spaces will be utilised by contractors.

Pedestrians are encouraged to use the mid-block crossings and corner crossings to manoeuvre around the CBD throughout the work.

The program is subject to change due if bad weather occurs, however we hope to have the full project completed shortly.
