This month we celebrated Easter at the Goulburn Soldiers Club where we held our April meeting, with 25 members and guests, with apologies from 4 members.
The Welfare group had no visits to members, our thoughts are with members who are not well and send birthday wishes to Belinda Bent, Margaret Walcott and Jenny Sullivan.
Raffles were won by Delma Nelson, Kayleen Tremble and Brenda Writer, lucky programme won by Gloria Bell and lucky chairs by Irene Picker and Gloria Porter.
VIEW Clubs of Australia is delighted to announce Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley as the organisation’s first ever Patron. As a passionate advocate for children’s education, and with close ties to communities across Australia as the wife of the Governor-General, Mrs Hurley is the perfect fit to represent the organisation. Mrs Hurley joins 15,000 members who give tirelessly in their local communities to support young Australians in need.
This month, our guest speaker was April Helene Horton, who is a writer, podcaster and activist. April is a past Goulburn Lilac Time Queen, and aside from her corporate experience as a leader within private and public sector roles, she also led the recent campaign for Curvy Swimwear as the first plus-size bikini model to appear on Australian billboards.
According to the ladies, April was the most vibrant and vivacious guest speaker ever to address the Goulburn Day View Club, she held the audience enthralled with her experiences leading up her image on the 296 sq mtr Bikini Billboard, starting with the filming at Cronulla Beach through to the six-story building in Melbourne. Her time on the morning T.V. with Larry Emdur, although very short was hilarious. Because of her heavy schedule, her visit to us was short but she has promised to return again at a later date. At the end of our meeting, April answered questions from our members, and we wished her good luck for the future.
Our last social outing was at Golden Star Restaurant where members enjoyed a delicious lunch. Our next outing will be on Thursday 15th April, a visit to the Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum at 10.30 am. and then lunch at the Greengrocers at 12 o’clock, so please let Margaret Gooch know if you are attending by 7p.m. Monday 12th March, 2021. Gold coin donation or $3 per person per group, to enter the Museum.
Our next meeting will be Thursday 6th May 2021 at 11a.m. for 11.30am at the Goulburn Soldiers Club. Please contact Margaret Gooch (02) 4822 1859 or 0409 904 917 before 7p.m the Monday before the luncheon if you wish to attend. You can also text or email your acceptance to mgooch65@gmail.com.
