This last weekend has put up some challenges for organisers of the two big events in Goulburn. The Festival of Place and Harmony Day went on regardless of weather conditions at the Veolia Arena, Goulburn Recreation Centre, Braidwood Road, Goulburn.
On Saturday 20th March the Festival of Place offered performances by local artists including Isy Cappo (10 am), Megan & Mackenzie (11 am), Leaving Reality (12 pm), 19-Twenty (1 pm), Bryn Wood (2 pm) and DJ VERTEXiAL (2:30 pm) at Veolia Arena. There were also workshops, classes, and other free activities in locations around Goulburn:
- Yoga class by Life Yoga Goulburn
- Circus Workshop by Lieder Theatre
- Art Workshop at Creative Space Goulburn
- Bass and guitar workshop by 19-Twenty at Hume Conservatorium
- Karate at Goulburn Martial Arts Centre
- Giant games
- Tug-o-war and boxing with PCYC
- Story Time in Goulburn Mulwaree Library’s Big Read Bus
The Festival was organised by the Goulburn Mulwaree Council and funded by a $10,000 grant from the NSW government to support the local community’s wellbeing and draw people out and back into the community.
On Sunday 21st March, Harmony Day was celebrated by offering a free barbeque and dance performances by several cultural groups. This was a thank you from the multicultural groups that have made Goulburn their home and an opportunity for the community to engage and further understand the many different backgrounds we have come from.
Motherhood the Musical also finished its season on Saturday 20th March after a successful run at the Lieder Theatre in Goulburn. It was written by Sue Fabisch and directed by Hannah Cotton and Marianne Powles.
This musical comedy documents the wonderful, crazy journey of motherhood and was brought to life by talented all-female cast, crew, band, and production team. It featured a double cast, many of whom are mothers themselves.
We were fortunate to see the Saturday afternoon performance and found it uplifting, touching and great fun. The music is catchy, and you want to sing along, and the characters were engaging and felt very real. The way the actors and band worked together was seamless and relaxed. The standard that the Lieder Theatre maintains in will have audiences coming back again and again.
Bravo everyone, for another excellent and entertaining production!
