The Goulburn Recreation Area has benefited significantly from a total of $782,515 in NSW Government funding received over two instalments as part of a COVID-19 stimulus package.

The first round of funding ($445,744) was used for retractable basketball hoops and netball posts, retractable seating in the Veolia Arena and a significant car park upgrade, with these projects now complete.

Mayor Bob Kirk said this investment by the NSW Government has allowed a huge raft of important upgrades at the Recreation Area.

“This space houses groups such as basketball, netball, Goulburn harness racing, greyhounds and the Goulburn Show society.

The upgrades to the Recreation Area have been of huge benefit to each user group and have also provided important stimulus to the economy during a difficult year.

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said showgrounds play an important role at the heart of our communities.

“This investment by the NSW Government was to provide a boost for our local showgrounds and the communities they serve by supporting tradies and suppliers with work and strengthening showground infrastructure for future use,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

Projects to be completed in the coming months as part of the second round of funding include solar panels on the Grace-Millsom Centre, installation of cover over the cattle yards and significant upgrades to the Peden Pavilion which requires electrical work along with upgraded toilet facilities.

The Recreation Area is located at 47-131 Braidwood Road, Goulburn, on the corner of Bungonia Road. The complex occupies 45 hectares of land alongside the Mulwaree River. It is a Crown Reserve with Council as Trustee managing the complex.
