Judging by the numbers of people that turned out to the showgrounds in Goulburn, the show is strongly back up and running, with social distancing rules being followed with no problems. All inside events were being well supervised and outside events had plenty of space for attendees.
The snake tent was a popular place for kids and families with an entertaining show of different types of snakes, what to do if you come across a snake and what to do if you are bitten by one. The kids excitedly volunteered to be snake bite “victims” and demonstrate having their arms bandaged. They were also given the opportunity to hold a reptile and have a photo.
Showbags were enthusiastically purchased, the Bertie Beetle bag being most popular and selling out quickly. There were plenty of food vans selling everything from coffee to falafels. Other vendors were selling windchimes, clothes, leather goods, soaps and much more and there was a vendor selling his beautiful handmade wooden goods large and small and who was doing a good trade.
The animal sections of the show were another popular spot for kids and families with goats, sheep, and alpacas being judged and viewed. There was also a cat competition on the Saturday.
The plant, vegetable and baking sections of the show were judged and on display and attracted plenty of interest. There were wonderfully delicious foods that made us feel hungry just looking at them and a large section of colourful vegetables of all varieties, gorgeous flowers and the bonsaied plants had many of us fascinated.
As I left the showground, I asked 4-year-old Nathan what he thought was the best thing about the show. He was definite that it was the slide. For me it was the snake tent, the flowers and bonsais and the wooden goods. Nathan made me realise I had missed all the fair ground rides. Ah well, I guess there is always next year!
