Husky and Round 16

Another week, another round of representation for members of the Goulburn Triathlon club plus a collection of other Goulburn athletes.

This week it was Huskisson on the NSW Shoalhaven Coast that played host to the Big Husky Triathlon Festival. The event is one of the largest Triathlon Events in the Southern Hemisphere and even with COVID safe measures the event welcomed almost 2500 competitors across several different distance events. Four Goulburn tri club members contested the sprint distance triathlon which comprises a 750m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run and another 2 members along with 7 other Goulburn residents took on the super sprint event 200/8/2. For at least 6 of these it was their first foray into the sport.

Some impressive results were recorded by the Goulburn competitors including five top ten age group placings. Isaac Hogan and Lori McWhirter were both 5th, Grace Martin 6th, Chris Montgomery 9th and Greg Butz 10 in their respective age groups. The remainder all recorded results in the middle half of their fields but being their first attempt and especially their first go at deep open water swimming they were all satisfied.

On Sunday former tri club star Cameron Roberts and Goulburn Cycle club member Ayla Rudgely contested the 5km Husky fun run. Both excelled with Cameron showing glimpses of his Aquathon days blasting through the course in under 17 minutes, the effort earning him third place outright. For Ayla her run of just over 21 minutes was good enough for 7th outright but 1st in the 20-29yr age group.
